Preface

India – The great and first land on this planet earth from where the humanity has learned to stand & express itself.But from the few centuries those countries who played in our motherland’s lap, are now teaching her how to stand. When the native of western world were forest dewellers, our ancient rishis & sages were engage in the research of physical & metaphysical science. From the past few centuries, the foreign invaders have continuously attacked on our country, and their main motive was to demolish our great & strong value based educational system which was based on very practical aspects of life.

But it is a matter of shame for us that our present education system is planned totally in such a way that it is fulfilling the dream of Lord Maculay as he said, “We must at present do our best to form a class, who may be interpreters between us and the millions we govern, a class of persons Indians in blood and color, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals and in intellects.”

So, now it is our duty to make our India & Indians arise again, but not as slaves & followers of west, but as the ‘Rulers of the world’.

My aim of preparing this website filled with astonishing information will be fulfilled it can rise a spark of love & pride for our great ancient India & again to bring back it’s glory.

And that golden time has come, because have started visiting this website

Two Views about our Motherland The Great India

For the last 50 years such an education has never produced a single Man of self thinking Indiviaudal!Education must take the individuals to a stream of thinking to make him to be a selfmade Man!
Today if India is in such a dire situation it is Only due to our own ignorance of imparting such an education to our youth!
Even those Genius in western countries have started analysing the downfall of India as India was in a pride of place amidst all Nations till recently!

Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native self-culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.”

Introduction to ancient India

The whole world stunned when the “Harappan civilization” (Harappa, means ‘The first discovered site’), came into light. The excavation was done by Daya Ram Sahni (1921), Madho Swaroop Vatsa (1926), and Wheeler (1946). John Marshall gave the term ‘Indus Civilzation’ and it’s commonly accepted time period is determine between 2500 BC-1750 BC (according to carbon-14 dating).

Vedic period is considered to be around (1500 BC-600BC). If we took a deep chronological insight then we’ll find that comparable to other civilizations India’s civilization is the oldest one.

India’s Civilization near about 6451 B.C

Egyptian Civilization near about 5500 B.C

China’s Civilization near about 3000 B.C

Greece Civilization near about 1000 B.C

Rome Civilization Civilization near about 600 B.C

Many historians claim that Egypt’s civilization is older than India’s civilization, but it’s not so as during Chandragutpa Maurya ruling time period Megasthenese, a Greek ambassador came to India between 302-298 B.C, & during his stay in India he did a lot of study in a library of Patliputra & wrote about that in his book ‘Indica’. According to Megasthenese, the time period period of 154 Kings from the period of King Bakas till Chandragupta Maurya was mentioned, and their total ruling time period was calculated and found to be 6451 years. So Chandragupta Maurya ruling time period was near about 2320 years back. So if we calculate both the time period it gives, 6451+2320=8771 years. Whereas the written records of Egyptian civilization are found till 5500 B.C. Thus according to written records, Egyptian civilization is 5500+2000=7500 years old.

Therefore by comparing both 8771-7550=1271 years, Indian civilization is more older than Egyptian civilization. (*Research note by Dr. B. Shambhunath Shastri)

Secondly, in Egypt during the process of mummification or preservation of dead bodies of King & queen of Egypt, they use the ‘tamarind wood’ & ‘Indigo’, which was at that time only found in India and nowhere else in the world, that’s why the Egyptians named it as ‘Indigo’, and tamarind is distorted name of ‘tamre-hind’ it was exported from India to the whole world.

Ancient India’s value based education system

The method in ancient India for providing education was based on very scientific and psychological basis.

In order to attain education every student has to pass an exam as asked by his Guru, as in Prashnopnishad Maharshi Piplad asked from his four disciples to practice one year brahmcharya (celibacy) and then come to take knowledge. What a scientific and fantastic method for providing education! because without pure and chaste mind no one can explore the hidden truths of nature, this is the reason why so many intellectual & spiritual heroes are found to be whole life celibate as Bheeshma Pitahma, Shukdeva , Shankaracharya, Ramkrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Paramhansa Yogananda, Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh and most of the daredevil revolutionaries etc. presently Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, Atal Bihari Bajpayee and Anna Hajare who brought a revolution in their times. In western countries also you can get such examples such as Newton, Adam Smith, etc. instead of attracted towards sensual pleasures devoted their life for the well being of society.

So, come back to the topic Ancient Gurukul education has mainly three process or methods of teaching:

“Sravana” i.e, acquiring knowledge of Vedas or ‘Shrutis’ by listening.
“Manana” i.e, making students to think, analyse and derive their own conclusions.
“Nidyasana” i.e, meditating on what truths they came to know by the guidance of their Guru and applying them in their own life.

Myth # In ancient India women are not allowed to study?

Truth: In ancient India women are given equal rights in each and every sphere of life. Many educated women like Maitreyi, Apala, Gayetri, etc. are there who use to teach and added new milestone in ancient education.

Myth# Lower class people have no respect in the society in that Vedic period?

Truth: During vedic period person was no context in relation to which cast or class he belongs to, a person is respected according to his personal uniqueness. You will surprised to know that Ved Vyas who brought to the world’s largest epic Mahabharata was a son of a fish-women Satyavati (also known as Matsyagandha), Vishwamitra, who was a medium of giving the world Gayatri Mantra, was a not a Brahmin, by birth, Vashishtha, the highly prominent sage during Lord Rama time period, was son of Urvashi, a prostitute. Valamiki who was born in a low class family, and in his youth was a rouge, but after getting enlightenment, he wrote The Ramayana & is highly appreciated all over India.

* Taxila is the first university of the world It was famous for Medical Studies. Great persoalities like Kautilya, also known as Chanakya, who wrote world famous books like “Chanakyaneeti” &” Arthashastra”, Pushyamitra, Panini , famous physician Jeevak serve this institution.

Minimum age for entering in university was considered to be 16 years, and he has to pass a tough entrance examination test before taking admission.

Mainly 18 subjects are taught in the university which is planned in such a way that they may prove helpful to make the student stand on their foot in their future life, list of some subjects are as follows: Politics, Philosophy, Mathematics, Ayurveda, Surgery, Archery, Astrology, Future Forecasting, Farming, Business Strategies, Maintaining Accounts, Horse Riding, Magical Tricks (Indrajaal), Snake Hypnotizing (Nagvashikaran), Prediction of hidden money (Gupta nidhi anveshan), music, dance & painting.

Varanasi, Mathura, Kanchi, are famous for religious studies and covering almost all aspects of human life including philosophy ,literature, politics, mathematics, ayurveda, astrology, etc. Students from many countries of South Asia like China, Japan, etc.

For common people and uneducated class which include peasants, cobblers, fisherman, etc. our ancient sages certain principles or rituals like following practices like doing fasting, taking bath regularly, doing prayer both times at dawn and dusk, etc. which helps them to make their life healthy and disciplined.

Thus by these you can get a glimpse of ancient Indian education.

Introduction to Lord Macaulay and his devious (cunning) strategies

Thomas Babington Macaulay also known as Lord Macaulay was born on 25^thOctober 1800, in England. His nephew writes in biography of Macaulay( Trevelyan 1876:112),”Macaulay exhibited, vehemence, over-confidence, the inability to recognize that there are two sides to a question or two people in a dialogue, just as other men displayed.”. Macaulay was highly predisposed in his ideals and ideologies by the great achievements of Western civilization, sciences, philosophy and theology.

He arrived in Madras (India) on 10^th June 1834 during the period of Lord William Bentinck (Governer General), as a member of Supreme Council of India. Macaulay spend only four years in India (till 1838), and then returned back to England. But within these four years, very shrewdly he distorted the ancient knowledge & culture of India which can be also seen at present.

In the words of Macaulay, the Father of British schooling in India: “We must at present do our best to form a class, who may be interpreters between us and the millions we govern, a class of persons Indians in blood and color, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals and in intellects.” Macaulay had very little regard for Hindu culture and education: He stated “All the historical information which can be collected from all the books which have been written in the Sanskrit language, is less valuable than what may be found in the paltriest abridgement used at preparatory schools in England.”
He further said: “Hindus have a literature of small intrinsic value, hardly reconcilable with morality and full of monstrous superstitions.”
Lord Macaulay said the following about India in 1835 in British Parliament.

Devious Strategies:

For erasing illiteracy, primary schools are to be opened. To get officials with less expenditure, secondary education is essential because importing Englishmen for that purpose is impossible. Colleges with English education is unavoidable to make the Indian educated class detest everything Indian, to make them look at it as nothing more than mean and illogical superstitions.

Macaulay’s prophecy worked well, both to rule and impoverish the English educated class of Indians as well as their blind followers, the laymen of British India. The factory-made goods of the Britishers found a very good market, and one by one all the handicrafts and home industries lost their charm among the Indians. As the English factories were helped to get raw materials from India at the lowest rates and supply factory-made articles to the Indian consumers, all the home industries of the Indians became extinct within a couple of decades, not being able to compete with them. As English became the official language replacing Sanskrit, some of the educated class started to learn English to earn their living. All those who could not continue their hereditary occupations and learn English became jobless and miserably poor. Taking advantage of the changed situation, the missionaries tried to convert some of the weaker sections to Christianity by several inducements, a program they seem to have tried to continue. However, seeing through this plan, some religious institutions of the Vedic followers, such as the Arya Samaj, Brahmasamaj, Ramakrishna Movement, Shivananda Movement, and others, fought against them.

Unfortunately, not only are they totally ignorant of their own culture, but they also look down upon it. Not only have they no idea about the greatness of the Bhagavad Gita, of meditation, of Ayurveda, or pranayama, but they use the best of their talents to run it down, with wit, good English and a nasty and acerbic pen.

These intellectuals are all a product of a man called Macaulay, who, more than 200 years ago, had the brilliant idea to fashion sahibs out of brown-skin natives and make them not only more British than the British, but also make them ashamed of their own culture, spirituality and ethos. When they took over India, the British set upon establishing an intermediary race of Indians, whom they could entrust with their work at the middle level echelons and who could one day be convenient instruments to rule by proxy, or semi-proxy. The tool to shape these British clones was education.

# India is the largest democracy in the world, the 6th largest Country in the world, and one of the most ancient civilizations.

# The game of Snakes & Ladders was created by the 13th century poet saint Gyandev. It was originally called ‘Mokshapat’. The ladders in the game represented virtues and the snakes indicated vices. The game was played with cowrie shells and dices. In time, the game underwent several modifications, but its meaning remained the same, i.e. good deeds take people to heaven and evil to a cycle of re-births.

# The world’s highest cricket ground is in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. Built in 1893 after leveling a hilltop, this cricket pitch is 2444 meters above sea level.

# India has the largest number of Post Offices in the world.

# The largest employer in the world is the Indian Railways, employing over a million people.

# The world’s first university was established in Takshila in 700 BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. The University of Nalanda built in the 4th century was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of education.

# Ayurveda is the earliest school of medicine known to mankind. The Father of Medicine, Charaka, consolidated Ayurveda 2500 years ago.

# India was one of the richest countries till the time of British rule in the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus, attracted by India’s wealth, had come looking for a sea route to India when he discovered America by mistake.

# The Art of Navigation & Navigating was born in the river Sindh over 6000 years ago. The very word Navigation is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘NAVGATIH’. The word navy is also derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Nou’.

# Bhaskaracharya rightly calculated the time taken by the earth to orbit the Sun hundreds of years before the astronomer Smart. According to his calculation, the time taken by the Earth to orbit the Sun was 365.258756484 days.

# The value of “pi” was first calculated by the Indian Mathematician Budhayana, and he explained the concept of what is known as the Pythagorean Theorem. He discovered this in the 6th century, long before the European mathematicians.

# Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus also originated in India. Quadratic Equations were used by Sridharacharya in the 11th century. The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus used numbers as big as 10*53 (i.e. 10 to the power of 53) with specific names as early as 5000 B.C. during the Vedic period. Even today, the largest used number is Terra: 10*12(10 to the power of 12).

# The Baily Bridge is the highest bridge in the world. It is located in the Ladakh valley between the Dras and Suru rivers in the Himalayan mountains. It was built by the Indian Army in August 1982.

# Sushruta is regarded as the Father of Surgery. Over 2600 years ago Sushrata & his team conducted complicated surgeries like cataract, artificial limbs, cesareans, fractures, urinary stones, plastic surgery and brain surgeries.
